Several years ago I went looking for new ways to make money and I looked to the Internet to help me do it. I was looking for work at home ideas that I could do in my spare time as I was already operating a brick and mortar business as well. To be honest I was actually looking for ideas to make money from home not online. I didn’t realise it was even possible to make money on the Internet unless you started a company and the Dot Com bubble bursting was still in the media. I was thinking of some sort of a mail order type business and I was mainly interested in a business idea that provided more control over cash flow.
Home Based Business 101
It has been around 4 years since then and along the way I’ve researched many, many work from home ideas that actually make money. Finding the best work from home based business ideas isn’t easy and it doesn’t help when you don’t have a clue what your looking for. Over the last several years I’ve developed my own business model of sorts and it happens to be a combination of the most popular work from home ways to make money. My model includes:
- Web Publishing.
- Affiliate Marketing.
- Advertising (both private and program)
- Consulting
I also build a website here and there but I haven’t found a productive way to make that a home based business I would actually like to own in 2012. There are some service type businesses online that are scalable, but I don’t feel that web design is one for me. I’ve also dabbled in SEO consulting a little and probably a little too soon. It takes a ton of time to provide a valuable search engine optimization offering when you don’t have a network for things like content creation, link building and all sorts of other technical stuff that comes up along the way.
Remember when you choose a home based business to start keep in mind the time you can spend and keep your expenses low. When I first started I used only completely free ways to make money using my computer, and I already owned that. I’ll make a page soon that shares some of the free ways to create and publish content online, which is on way to start creating an audience…. You need one of those and we will give you tips on how to create one.

One of my new projects is to publish a monthly newsletter packed full of the best work from home based business ideas for 2012. Each month we will share 2 or 3 different ways to work from home and make money. One approach we intend to take is to interview people who have reached a significant income level using the work at home idea in the news letter, it’s better to learn from someone who is having some success, right?
I have my own business model and making money ideas I can share, and I will. I’ll share more about the “homemade” business model I use and how you can do the same thing. I still operate with very low costs and use Word Press as my CMS and it’s free…
